Philly is a town of Champions... atleast this year

A Message from the Dean of Students

January 16, 2009

Dear Temple University Students,

Welcome back! We hope you have had a great winter break and are ready for an exciting spring semester. As you are no doubt aware, the Philadelphia Eagles are in the divisional playoffs. A win by the Eagles this Sunday against the Phoenix Cardinals will send our hometown team to the Super Bowl. We know many of you have come back to campus early to participate in Monday’s Martin Luther King events and will be watching this exciting game.

As with our World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies, we want you to take great pride in our hometown teams’ accomplishments. At the same time, we want you to stay safe as you celebrate. That is why we want to remind all Temple students of several important points.

  • Students involved in vandalism, refusal to disperse, destruction of property, etc. will face both criminal and University Disciplinary action. Sanctions may range from fines up to and including immediate suspension.

  • DO NOT PARK ON BROAD STREET OR THE 1300 BLOCK OF NORRIS STREET ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. To prevent vandalism, cars will be towed from Broad and the 1300 block of Norris on Sunday afternoon.

  • There will be increased security in Temple University residence halls.

  • Surveillance – including videotaping – is heightened during this time on campus and throughout the city.

  • Both the city of Philadelphia and Temple University will have additional police in place Sunday after the game.

  • Temple University respects our neighbors and takes pride in our community. Celebrations that disturb our neighbors, damage their property, or litter our neighborhoods will not be tolerated.

  • Act responsibly while you have fun.

We need everyone’s help in assuring that the Temple community, including all of our students and neighbors, enjoys this moment in our city’s history. Thank you in advance for your commitment to the Temple community. Go Eagles!

Sincerely,

Ainsley Carry, Ed.D.
Dean of Students
